Ginseng, Panax ginseng, also known as Asian or Korean ginseng has been shown to increase energy, help fight fatigue, and increase physical stamina and agility. It may even enhance the body's ability to recover from physical injuries. Small doses of ginseng are used to slow aging, reduce stress, balance mood, and enhance a person's general health. Ginseng may lower the risk of cancer and build up a weakened immune system. Asian ginseng is more warming than American ginseng and is well suited to older men and women who tend to be cold, pale, and easily fatigued. Red ginseng, which is steamed before drying, is more warming in energy, whereas white ginseng, which is just peeled and dried, is more neutral in energy.
Has no toxic effects but is contraindicated with signs of heat, in acute diseases, high fevers, or inflammation.
