Barberry, berberis vulgaris, contains berberine, an antimicrobial and antifungal compound. Barberry has been shown to increase bile production. Barberry also contains a compound called 5-MHC, which helps keep bacteria from developing resistance to antibiotics, making it useful for many infections.
