Our purple sea moss species, Chondrus crispus, is sourced from the shores of Massachusetts and contains high levels of healthy fatty acids which are vital for sleep, bone, skin, and heart health.
Sea moss is a form of algae that is rich in iodine, potassium, magnesium, manganese, and many other minerals and vitamins. Sea moss is best known for its ability to dissolve catarrh which is the build-up of mucus in an airway or sinus cavity of the body. The body will produce excess mucus in response to inflammation in the body. Overproduction of mucus can lead to frequent coughing, congestion, or the formation of mucoid plaque in blood vessels or the digestive tract making it challenging for the body to optimally function. Sea moss is a natural substance that helps to safely remove excess mucus from the body.
Sea moss being very mucilaginous when soaked in water can be blended raw into a gel and added to fruit smoothies, tea, soups, pasta sauces, or consumed alone. It's a vegan thickening agent that can be used to replace gelatin in recipes.
How To Prepare Chondrus Crispus Sea Moss Gel
Place 1 cup of sea moss in a colander and rinse any ocean debris present. Then place sea moss in a sauce pan with 3 cups of filtered water. Heat sea moss covered for 10 to 15 minutes on medium heat until sea moss becomes a jelly like texture. Turn off heat and let sea moss cool. Then transfer sea moss and the liquid from the sauce pan to a blender and blend until smooth.
Keep gel refrigerated for up to 4 weeks. Take 2 tablespoons per day for the best results.
