Meadowsweet, Filipendula ulmaria, contains salicin, a compound similar to aspirin, but without the negative side effects. it's useful for reducing pain and inflammation, but it takes 6-8 hours to start acting. It settles the stomach and acts as a natural antacid. It also contains silica, which aids the skin, joints, and connective tissues.
Because of its salicin content, some herbalists think meadowsweet should not be given to small children suffering from fevers from colds, flu, or chickenpox. It can cause nausea or vomiting in large doses.
This can be taken as an infusion, tincture, powder or capsules.
