Milk Thistle, Carduus marianus, contains silymarin that has good scientific evidence that it can protect the liver from various chemicals and toxins and aid in healing liver diseases. Milk thistle can prevent liver cell death from toxins like carbon tetrachloride and even the toxic effects of Amanita (death cap) mushrooms. The flavonoids in milk thistle can increase the production of glutathione, a strong antioxidant.
