Slippery elm, Ulmus rubra, is a soothing and nourishing mucilaginous herb that helps absorb acid and irritants in the stomach. It is used internally for irritations of the stomach and intestines, for diarrhea (especially in children), and as a mild, nourishing food for weak and debilitated persons. Slippery elm is overharvested and at-risk. Unless you happen to have a slippery elm tree in your yard, use marshmallow instead. Marshmallow root will do everything slippery elm will do. and is sustainable and usually cheaper.
A mild and very safe remedy.
This can be taken as a gruel, infusion, capsules, or topical use.
